End of Course Summary

This year of globaloria was very fun and was an experience like no other.

We started out at the beginning of the year by making our own wiki and gmail. Making a wiki and customizing it was very cool.

The next thing we did for a long while was make game demos that thought us how to do different things with action script that we would need to know when me made out full game.

Starting out game started out slow because we didn't know where to start. To assist us with this problem we made paper prototypes that basically helped us model and imagine our game.

Around this time we made our game teams. My team was the QWERTY Keyboard team.

A lot of our year consisted of working on our main game. Our progress was hindered, however, by the mass amount of snow days we encountered. To make things worse the wireless router we use to access the internet in school was stolen.

In the end we had to plan out our year so we could get the most done possible. Our game did not go as far as we hoped but we still have some pretty impressive assets.

The following assets were hand made from scratch by our team:

Prepearation for Presentations

Th year is coming to an end and there is much to do to prepare for presentations. Priorities must be made and work must be done. Right now may main priority is to get a working demo for the presentation. This is most important because without it we will have nothing to present.

Second priority is to get all of our flash files and information uploaded to the GEHS Wiki. Having our things on the wiki is an important part of the presentation. Not only to the World Wide Workshop team look at this but it can also assist you in your presentation.

To get our game finished we are going to have to look up certain action script functions. We have completed our game background and game character and have a scrolling background but we need to add more phisics to the game.

Plans for the rest of the year

The end of the year is nearing and we still have much to do. Here is my plans for the rest of the year:

April 19th - May 1st: I plan to work mainly on game art and some of the basic coding like screen navigation. I need to upload many files to the wiki and update my learning log. I have completed the games background for all levels and I have one of sever variations of my character.

May 1st May 10th: By this point I expect to have all variations of my game character and part of the items that you will be able to pick up drawn. I will finish any game items I need and start to foucus more on coding.

May 11th to May 20th: If I have all the things I need for the basics of my game I will begin to work on the game store. I will also start employing the learning aspect of the game. Prepare for presentations.

May 21st to May 25th: Tie up any loose ends.

May 25th to End of Year: Make sure I am prepared for presentations.

My Outlook on the Year

Within the next 7 weeks of school we have we will need to start working very hard on our game if we want to finish it on time.

In the next week I plan to get my scrolling background working.
The week after that I need to get my characters moving.
Next I will need to assign hit tests to objects.
After that I will need to get a score system up.
Lastly I need a store to buy items. This will probabally be the hardest task to complete.

I am going to try and work harder to complete my game. I have flash at home so I will probabally end up working on it a little bit there.

Organization of Files

In order to keep our files more organized we are going to start putting a prefix on all of our files. The prefix for our school is GEHS_[Insert Team Name Here]_[Insert File Name Here]_[Insert Date Here].swf

This prefix will keep our files more organized so that the globaloria administrators will be able to go through files more easily.

What I did today

Today I worked just a little bit on my game and uploaded a couple of files. I didnt make enough progress on my game to show. I need to start working a but harder on my game.

I uploaded a file to the wiki. It is a tutorial that teaches you how to convert onClipEvent functions to onEnterFrame functions.

This is useful because a lot of tutorials on the internet for action script are in onclipEvent coding and we use onEnterFrame coding.

Uploading Files

Uploading files is one of the most importan parts of gloaloria. We need to upload files so that we can share with others our accomplishments. I have uploaded almost all of my flash assets and am in a good standing with just generaly uploading files. One ting I lack though is display. I have all of my files uploaded but I dont have everything shown on our team page and blog. I will work more to get these things uploaded so that you all can see my progression more easily.

Not only is uploading your files important so people can see our files; it is also important so that you will not loose your files. Ir is possible you could accidently loose your flsh file on your computer and having a backup online makes it that much safer for your files.
